Derrick Smallwood and another suspect were trying to break into a parked vehicle on the 3100 block of Wilson Boulevard around 10:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17 when police arrived, county authorities said.

Responding officers found Smallwood inside the vehicle and arrested him. Burglarious tools were recovered during the search of the vehicle, county police said.

During the course of the investigation, Smallwood gave a fake identification to officers and items believed to be stolen were recovered from him, police said.

Smallwood was arrested and charged with Attempted Grand Larceny Auto, Possession of Burglarious Tools, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, Petit Larceny and Providing False Identification to Law Enforcement.

He was held without bond. The second suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of police and the investigation into his identity is ongoing. He is described as an unknown race male, approximately 5’7”-6’0”, 150-190 pounds wearing black shorts.
